project architect / enea landscape architecture
project responsibilities / As a team of two (project manager and project architect), I played an integral role assisting the project manager on all stages of design including site analysis, site visits, and production of conceptual presentations through schematic design development drawings.
project description /
This 2.7-hectare multi-use complex located along the Liang Ma River on the Third Ring of Beijing, China is comprised of two modern office towers, an amphitheater, a Bulgari hotel and residence, a contemporary art museum designed by Tadao Ando and accompanying outdoor spaces and gardens. Careful study of the site and research on Chinese design and traditions were conducted to be able to stategically develop the design.
Our scope included concept design through design development. A local landscape architect developed the construction documents, and our company is currently involved in the construction observation and design updates as necessary.
* drawings/graphics by me while working at enea, unless otherwise indicated.
The soft lines of the adjacent river informed the landscape’s geometry, and through the abstract interpretation of concepts from the traditional Chinese gardens and a clear strategy for the spatial articulation for each program area, we developed a succession of scenes that unfold, creating a narrative that takes the visitors through a visual and emotional experience. The large, introduced native pine trees become living sculptures, connecting the overall site together.
